Golden Rule in Life

Dear Society,

You have changed over the years. You aren’t as friendly, your neighborhoods aren’t communities, and you are always in a rush. It feels like you have forgotten that the others you interact with are people too; with their own lives, struggles, successes, and goals. You need to reach back into the old life lessons from childhood. You must remember the classic Golden Rule? Treat others as you would like them to treat you. I know at times it is hard to put yourself in someone else’s place, if you’ve never been in their position. Just be nice and try smiling. It really doesn’t take any extra time or effort and you never know how it could change their day.

You expect children to be kind to one another, why do you not set the same standards for adults? Sadly, some see the kindness of others as an outdated thing, or a sign of weakness. It is actually quite the opposite; you can experience a great since of power and fulfillment with kindness. People of all ages should follow the Golden Rule and think of others. I challenge you to help end the cycle. Starting today try being extra friendly to one random person a day. You may be surprised at how it changes your life in a positive way.

Please tell us about simple ways you follow the Golden Rule in your life in the comments below. Also, if you know someone that you think embodies this rule please nominate them for the Golden Rule Award. Click the link for more information.
